Church Government

The government of our congregation is managed somewhat like a representative democracy. In brief, the Voters’ Assembly meets three times a year; they are the decision-making body of the church and ultimately responsible for what happens at Berea. The Voters’ Assembly elects constitutional officers of the congregation: President, President-Elect, (3) Stewards, (3) Elders and (3) Deacons.

The elected officers are leaders of the congregation who serve collectively as the Church Council along with the Pastor who participates as a “non-voting” member. The Church Council meets bi-monthly to monitor and carry out the work of the congregation as defined and agreed upon in the Voters’ Assembly meetings.

2010 Church Council:
President: Shawn Mize
President-Elect: Dick Vohs
Stewards: Mike Myers, Tim Reich, Tim Schroeder
Elders: Paul Hickey, John Blomquist, Dean Bickett
Deacons: Bobbie Zelinski, Leslie McKeown, Vicki Gordon

The Church Council appoints representatives to serve in several positions necessary to help carry out the work of the congregation. These appointments include (but are not limited to): Secretary, Treasurer, Counter, Contribution Recorder, Property Managers and Endowment Fund Advisor.

More information about our church government as well as the roles and responsibilities of elected and appointed positions can be found in The Constitution and By-Laws of Berea Lutheran Church.
